Fascia- Informed Professional Development

I’m Amy Mayer OTD, OTR/L, RYT, an OT with 32 years of experience integrating fascia-informed techniques with occupational therapy practice and your partner in becoming fascia-informed and reenergizing your practice.

For much of my career I thought myofascial release was the only way to affect the fascial system. As I learned more about fascia science, a whole new world of intervention strategies opened up and many of them don’t require the use of any manual techniques.

Learning fascia science is the fastest way to drive innovation, expand your treatment options, and reenergize your practice.

The research on this body system is pouring out. Let me catch you up! I’ve scoured dozens of books, hundreds of articles, and attended and participated in so many workshops with scientists from all over the world AND I apply it every day in my private practice. I’ve made it my business to understand fascia. I have so much to share about the new science of the fascia and how it all applies to our practice!

I’ve been educating adult learners for nearly three decades, and I apply all the science and techniques I teach in my courses with my clients (and to myself) every single day. Whether you are a new graduate or a seasoned practitioner, learning about fascia will transform and energize your practice.

Let me translate decades of fascia research for you so YOU can innovate, expand and reenergize YOUR practice!

Integrating Fascia Science into Occupational Therapy Practice:

Elevating Our Understanding of the Human Body and Improving Our Outcomes

Most practitioners believe the right technique or protocol is what they need to help their clients. What they actually need is the ability to critically think through the problems of the client in front of them.

Two important characteristics of critical thinkers are:
Open-mindedness: Being receptive to new ideas, perspectives, and arguments, even if they challenge existing beliefs.
Curiosity: A strong desire to learn, ask questions, and seek out new information.
We want critical thinkers in this course! Fascia science adds so much new information and an entirely new perspective of the human body.

What Therapists are saying about Becoming Fascia-Informed

The Importance of Posture

I treat everything from orthopedic to neurological, pelvic health to lymphedema and cardiology/oncology patients. I find that when they work on posture and breathing, their overall pain level goes down and they have less overall issues.

Fascia is Important!

This was a wonderful course. It gave me a good understanding of the role fascia plays in our bodies and how important it is to consider the fascia in our bodies and in the bodies of our patients when it comes to pain, tightness, mobility, and function.

FAQs

What is fascia?

Fascia is a body system. Not only that, but it is also the environment of all our other body systems making its health paramount.

How will learning about fascia help me?

Because fascia surrounds and supports all our other body systems, its health influences all the other body systems. If you are trying to change any part of the body, you must consider the influence of the fascia.

What practice areas should take the courses?

All practice areas with all ages of clients can benefit. Understanding the fascia adds a new layer to our thinking when we are evaluating and treating our clients.

What results can I expect from becoming fascia-informed?

You’ll have an entirely new view of the human body including how you approach your evaluation and your intervention.

Do you have a YouTube Channel?

Yes! It is in development. Click here.

Can’t I just learn about fascia on my own?

Of course! There is so much information available to us. However, I’ve spent 30 years sorting through the research and applying it to practice. I can save you so much time!

Where should I start?

We recommend our foundational course. If that seems daunting, we recommend the posture course Fascia, Posture and Health
for the Occupational Therapy Practitioner: A fascia informed approach
. This course applies to ALL practice areas and ALL ages.

I’m not an occupational therapist. Can I take the courses?

Of course! We welcome OTAs, PTs, PTAs, SLPs, SW, Nursing and any other discipline. You will need to determine how this information fits in to your scope of practice.

Can my patient or clients take your courses?

We have a library of fascia informed courses for the public as well! You can send them here: Mayer Fascia Wellness Courses.
